Trip to South Africa, December 2017

What a great time we had! At the end of the trip, we decided it was one of our best trips ever. Three days in Stellenbosch visiting wineries and relaxing, two days in Grotto Bay on the coast (more relaxing), and then ten days in Cape Town – RELAXING! We were friends for the first two segments, and driving around the countryside and up the coast was a blast. We were sad to see them go, but

WOW did we have fun in Cape Town! What a captivating city with so much to do and see. And incredible food and music! The people are friendly, welcoming, and very funny! Great senses of humor. It was rather disconcerting that the city is running out of water so everyone was talking about “Day Zero” (when the taps will run dry). We felt guilty using water, but the local opinion is that generally tourists are more conscientious about water usage/conservation, and use less water than the locals. I have no way of confirming that… Also, it was a little unnerving that after dark, women aren’t really safe walking around. We aren’t used to needing to take a cab for a few blocks. But hey, better safe than sorry.
